Oh, how I love this comic! It is SOOOO cute! For all those non-Japanese speakers, I thought I'd post the English translation. Granted, some of the kanji was somewhat unreadable (or at least, for my non-native eyes), so I've done my best as to what I think they are saying.
Please keep in mind that these translations are not all literal/ exact, but rather I've made them into cultural equivilents (Example: In Japan, when you reach your hand over the table to grab someone, you say "Shitsurei" which means, "Rude," or "I'm being rude." However, in this situation, in English, you would actually say, "Excuse me.")
All in all, I'm confident in about 90% of the translation. Each line represents a new speech/thought bubble, so I hope it's not too difficult to understand the flow. Enjoy!
Dory: Marlin! Marlin! Today’s February, 14th, right? Well, since you’re the one that I like… Happy Valentine’s Day! Marlin: Oh, uh, today’s Valentine’s Day… You’re giving this to me?! Arrow: Totally awake now Dory: Surprised? Marlin: Uh, thank… Dory: Make sure you eat it, okay?! Marlin: …you. … Marlin thinks, “Dory… she made chocolate… for me.” Marlin:“Delicious!” A short time laterNoisy steps/cluncky running Dory: Hey, Marlin! Marlin: Dory! Perhaps, she can’t wait to see how I like the chocolate. What’s happening to me? She’s just too cute! Ba-dum Ba-dum (heart beat) Small print: Aaahhhh Dory: What’re you doing?! Marlin: Oh, uh, nothing, it’s nothing. So, the chocolate you gave me was really- Dory: Today’s February 14th, right? Marlin: Can’t I even finish sayi- Dory: Happy Valentine’s Day!! Marlin: Uhh… Wait! You already GAVE me chocolate! Dory: Make sure to eat it, okay?! Marlin: AGH!!! I guess I don’t mind getting two… Dory: Oh, wow, where did you get that cute chocolate? Marlin: YOU gave it to me! Just now! Dory: Oh! Hey, Marlin, today’s February 14th, right? I made some chocolate for you! Here you go! Marlin: A third one?!!!! You’re going too fast! Like usual… Dory: Wait! Wait! Marlin thinks, *Sigh* It’s no use. Small print: Though, she’s kinda cute when she gets like this… When it doesn’t matter what I say… It’s okay. How many more can there be? Arrow: TONS (all the same chocolate) Dory: Here you go. Arrow: Paper bag Dory: Alright! I’ve got to git! Marlin: WAIT A SECOND!!! Uh, you’ve just given me a lot of the same thing… Dory: Huh? Marlin: So…yeah. Dory: What? Marlin: … … It’s not “got to git,” it’s “got to go.” Dory: *gasp* Oh, you’re right!
These last lines about "got to git" vs "got to go" is an example of a cultural equivalent that I've used in an attempt to preserve the joke. In the original, Dory says that she needs to "flash" (furasshu) and Marlin tells her that what she means actually means is that she has to "rush (away)" (rasshu) which are similar words in Japanese. I instead changed it to Dory incorrectly using "g2g" and Marlin correcting her.
I'm taking Japanese, but I'm not that good yet O_O; I might be able to understand the hiragana, but I'll be lost on the kanji...;_; Sorry everyone... But this is still so adorable it made my heart melt <3
